A haven for ramblers

The George at Nunney's location along the popular charity walking route the Macmillan Way makes it a very popular walker-friendly hotel, bar and restaurant destination for ramblers. Muddy boots are a familiar sight outside our front door, as ramblers recover from a long hiking trip through the West Country or a brisk stroll through the Somerset fields in our garden or by a roaring log fire.

The Mendips offer hikers outstanding views and excellent footpaths, flora and fauna in abundance and a rich heritage that never fails to impress.

With Wells and Glastonbury to the West, the Longleat and Stourhead Estates to the South, Bath to the North and a rolling landscape full of woods, streams and ancient monuments all around, Nunney is the ideal stopover or base for a walking holiday or short break.

The George at Nunney is a walker-friendly B&B hotel and restaurant, where you are more than welcome to relax for lunch or dinner or a refreshing drink during your travels.

We are featured on the rambling portal WalkingWorld.com, the fantastic online resource for all British walkers. Here you can find over 4500 routes, contributed by more than 300 walkers from all round the country. The walks come in a unique format making them very easy to follow, with photographs to illustrate every important decision point and a proper Ordnance Survey map.

Our nine guest rooms - all with en-suite or private bathroom with bath or shower - are the perfect place to recover before setting off for the day after a hearty English breakfast. And if you ask a member of staff, we'll happily pack a lunch for you as well.

Whether you are looking for a short and easy walk in the woods or fields or an advanced rambling excursion, you'll be rewarded with some of the finest panoramas in Britain. River valleys, countryside walk, disused quarries, romantic castles and ancient hill-forts, white horses, gardens, farmland footpaths, woods, industrial history, prehistoric monuments... the Somerset/Wiltshire border area around Nunney is an absolute paradise for rambling clubs, hikers, gentle walks and circular pub walks.

Please phone us on 01373 836 458 to check availability if you are planning to visit us with a walking club.

The Macmillan Way runs from Boston on the Lincolnshire coast to the Dorset coast at Abbotsbury. Walkers raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charitable organisation that helps people living with cancer by providing them with expert care and practical and emotional support. People who walk the Macmillan Way make donations through money raise from sponsorship by friends, relatives and colleagues.

The full Macmillan Way is 290 miles long and follows existing footpaths, bridleways and byways. Macmillan Way West is a 102 mile branch path that leaves the main path at Castle Cary in Somerset and heads across the Somerset Levels, the Quantocks and Exmoor to Barnstaple on the North Devon coast. There are a number of other branch routes, all clearly sign-posted, that take ramblers through unspoilt countryside and picturesque towns and villages.
